THE STORY

Hi, I'm Emilie! I originally started Casuarina Thrift & Consignment in March 2019, under the name "Nifty Thrifts", an Instagram store based solely in Barbados. After two years of operation, I decided to take a more serious approach towards my business and give it a rebrand. One that would not only spread the message about the importance of thrifting throughout the Caribbean, but also one that would create a community who would bring real change.

 

After extensive research, I settled on the name Casuarina Thrift. Thrifting has a direct impact on our beaches, oceans and marine life and with me living for most of life next to a beach filled with casuarina trees, it felt right.

The idea for the app came shortly after. Its, 2021(well it was at the time)! What better way to connect with people from all over the West Indies than with an app?

So now we have, Casuarina Thrift, a secondhand marketplace app based in the Caribbean. It was created to promote circular living, through the buying and selling of fashion and lifestyle items. Our aim is to reduce water wastage and fight ocean pollution through action and education. We want our community to be conscious so that they are intentional when they shop for the items that make them...them. We want you to #BeYou .
